When you look at Roxy's pictures, You can see she came over slowly. No pressure nor any calling her over. I just practiced Animal Reiki from a distance. Roxy is in a shelter environment which can be very stressful. I do not know why she is there but she is and looking for a new home. At 10 years old. This is a perfect dog for someone who wants a calm companion and one who needs a little walking. Keeps everybody more fit. Not running just walking.
What is Reiki ? Animal Reiki is mindfulness meditation practiced “with” our animals, rather than an energy therapy done “to” them. Animal Reiki meditation is taught as a state of mind with flexible physical forms. Touch is used only when animals seek it out, and then only as a compassionate support.
We were in our little hide away room for about 30 minutes. I did not force her to come over but when she did I gently put my hand on her. You can see Roxy came over little by little. In the end her head was on the dog bed pillow I was sitting on. She slept very soundly once she came over. I did not call her nor say a thing to her, Except when we went in the room. I said her name told her now we do Reiki together. Yes, I know she does not understand but using a soothing tone of voice I am sure she understood I was not going to harm her.
I have my Reiki People Practitioner degree which I did to understand Reiki better before doing it with Animals. My goal was to study it for the Animals. People can tell you their experience and people could do it on me and I on them. Understanding Reiki was important for me and with the People Reiki I could do that. And then I went to Animal Reiki School and got that Certificate. And here I am helping one dog at a time. I understand Reiki and finding the Animals do also.
Volunteering at the local Animal Shelter gives me the opportunity to help one dog at a time. Roxy was my first and as you see from the pictures she was ready to come over to me on her own. I did not speak a word to her after my initial words.
I do not want to sound like a crazy person because I believe in something that most can not see. I am not a fix it all person nor a Dr. who can diagnose and fix. It does not take much time with the Animals for them to know what is going on. It takes more time for us humans to see.
What made me believe in acupuncture? My dogs. Taking a limping dog who is an athlete to the acupuncture Vet and it can run and jump after tells me something. The dog tells me. It is not full proof but for slightly injured dogs it worked. At least on mine it did. As of this time in my life I still will take my sport dog to get acupuncture before a big dog sport event.
What made me beileve in Reiki? My body when it was done on me. My dogs and their reactions after a session. Yes, seeing is believing. Sometimes you need to see to believe. I do not have to convince the dogs. They just show me how they are feeling. No questions asked.
This is not saying I can heal a dog. This is saying I can make some comfort for that dog. Be it stress or pain Reiki can help. I saw that clearly with Roxy and felt it on me.
It is hard for me to shut up and just chill with a dog in the shelter. I want to hug it and pet it and hug it more. We had a lot of outside noise that we could hear. For her to shut all that out and me to consul her mindfully was a wonderful thing. I even got to put my hand on her and she was calm. She fell into a deep state of sleep. May have been her first good sleep since her arrival. It is loud and scary in a shelter especially with so many other dogs around barking. But for that 30 minutes and a nice walk after I am sure I made one dog feel better for a bit.
We are done now as our 30 minutes of Reiki is up. She is getting up to go with me. Rather than put her back in her kennel we went for a long walk and then said our goodbyes.
